Agreed great portraits and evocation of locale. Still given events I'm reading about online these days at first it looked pretty grim. Nothing wrong with that. It is what it is and I'm sure your portrayals are honest and accurate

I can see how "grim" enters in. I can't help it! But... the area was not so grim, though mostly beneath or within a block or two the El, so i couldn't help but convey that urban grittiness, esp at night. The young boy's mom and I would have a correspondence through Covid afterI sent her the photos. They were coming from a play, on their way home. She was curious why I was photographing a polished granite wall, so I showed her by photographing her son's reflection. For those personal reasons, it's one of my favorite street photos.

I get it. I wasn't repelled. Just wanted to give you a quick sense of how it struck me which evidently wasn't your intent. And we know the value of 5 sec impressions. Made all too often via social media. For me it was also an exercise in communication since I have so little these days.
