Mark this is terrific. I'm about to forward it to a local friend who adopted two young girls from Vietnam many years ago (now finishing HS or about to go to college) with a determination to keep them connected to their birthplace. So she has taken them there frequently during school breaks and established a children's fund "Bikes for Girls" to provide much-needed transportation for rural kids there especially to get back and forth to school. Also offers lessons in art and music in the villages. I'm guessing she (they) will relate to the story of what it took for the family to escape and become established in the US. I agree strongly with all the positive comments posted here by the time I saw this. And also offer much deserved congratulations on the award for the story.
Yes! And to keep our dualogue going I think many of us need more of them (those kinds of nice feelings) and we need to acknowledge that (at least true for me).
Every day, one more opportunity to do something with this thing called photography. How many photos/years/photowalks/hours and this modest recognition? It feels good.
Definitely appreciate your candor! Definitely not AI. Definitely not “photoshopped”. But yes, processed for a painterly feel, with high ISO and curves. And the rest of the article’s photos are pretty straight IMO. At the end of the day, I'm a human with particular style, as are you. And here we are….! Cheers.
Congratulations Mark! Well Deserved.
Danke, Mein Freund!
Congratulations Mark!! No surprise though. What an excellent series!
Wow, that's great, congratulations!
Well done Mark. Always a good feeling being recognised for producing good work. Which this obviously is!
Awesome to hear that great news Mark. Huge congrats to the beginning of it all.
Cheers!
It feels great, to be honest. I put many hours into my articles when I am given the opp, so it's nice to get a surprise validation.
The work you do is special, Mark! You live with such heart, and your photos take us there! I’m so happy you’re getting the recognition you deserve!
Thanks as always, Kathryn. You are a wonderful set of eyes and critical mind.
Excellent! You must feel great! It is one thing to do the work and know you have done it well, but it is sweeter when your peers say it also!
Thanks Soren. I'm anything but a professional photojournalist, but it's good to get the validation for the little that I'm able to contribute.
Oh that is just awesome, congratulations!!!
ty!!!

Of course. And why not? (Purely rhetorical. No need to respond.)
Congratulations! What a fantastic story!
Thanks for reading Rachel! Onward!
Quite the year for you! Congratulations and continued success!

Wonderful! Well deserved, Mark. You bring a rare, an unusual eye to our playing field.
“Unusual” usually feels about right. I'll take that. ty!
High praise, I assure
congratulations! i'm happy for you!
Congrats Mark. Well deserved.
When I saw the photo of the man working in the shop, I thought it was a drawing or painting, maybe even AI.
IMO, it's over processed, like so many images I see online.

Congratulations, Mark! Great photo.
