One of the reasons we chose Lubec as a vacation destination this year was, quite frankly, costs. Airbnb rentals around Bar Harbor — our initial vacation plan — were hundreds of dollars a night. The further north I ventured on the Airbnb app, the more “affordable” things became.
(Here are my first set of Lubec images, including our famous rooster, if you missed them.)
When we found the description of an 1820 farmhouse on three acres of waterfront farmland in a place called Lubec — unknown to us at the time, but apparently famous for being the easternmost municipality in the contiguous United States — well, how could we resist? It would be a lot of driving through a lot of trees to get there, but as a family we’re always game for out-of-the-way experiences.
It was, hands-down, my all-time favorite Airbnb rental ever and one of my favorite vacations. Chickens, gardens, and our own cove where we could watch the sunrise.
Let me rephrase that: we had our own cove where I could watch the sunrise.
I’ve made a promise with my family not to let my camera interfere with our family vacations. So all the images I’ll be sharing with you here and in the next few days were taken around 5:30 am sunrise while my family slept.
The images in today’s post were taken during a two-hour period on our first morning on the farm from the property’s waterfront.
Thank you for looking.

Why Am I Offering a Free Print to Paid Subscribers?
I want to reach across the virtual divide that separates us and offer something tangible, something meaningful to me that I’ve created with my own hands and that you can hold with yours. It’s old-school, I get it. And it costs me a little bit to do this, but your support means means everything to me. so let’s give this a try.
Yes, beautiful photos! I read that Lubec was also good for birding. We are on our way to New Brunswick soon and I was looking at staying near Lubec at some point on the trip. Looks like a perfect place to unwind and unplug.
Stunning!
